Environmental Studies Courses
Environmental Studies is a rapidly growing field both educationally and professionally. More than ever before, both private and public companies see the dangers of negative environmental practices -- both for the planet and for their bottom line. Today, being green means being environmentally sensitive, and proactive in finding new, sustainable technologies, designs and methods to reduce our collective carbon footprint. Companies both large and small now consider environmentally sound practices good for business. In fact, being green is becoming an entire industry in and of itself. (cont.)
There is great demand for graduates with environmental degrees. In fact, when the U.S. federal government announced that it would be spending $4 billion of economic stimulus money on "green jobs", many American workers saw it as perfect timing to go back to school and brush up on this specific skill set.
At its core, environmental studies examines the chemical, biological and physical ways in which different environments interact with each other. Studies can include biodiversity, climate change, waste management, soil contamination and water quality. Students will be challenged to think analytically and quantitatively, and should be interested in biology and chemistry. Students can go on to financially and intellectually rewarding careers in sustainable design, conservation or environmental research. Even more than this, professionals in this field are generally passionate about doing their part to help the planet in a meaningful way.
