The B.S. in Political Science and Public Administration with a concentration in Managing in the Public Sector introduces you to the differences and helps you polish your own management skills for success in today's environment.  This program will prepare you to pursue management positions, graduate education, or positions that interact with the public sector.

Throughout this program, you will:

  • Study the tools, techniques, and challenges of managing organizations and people successfully in the public and nonprofit sectors.
  • Study basic leadership principles, strategic planning, modern personnel systems, and performance management.
  • Study the new skills that public administrators need to be successful in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Examine issues such as teambuilding, contracting, procurement, compliance, grant writing, and outsourcing/insourcing.
  • Study short- and long-term financial analysis, policy development, and budget development.
  • Examine how the structure of an organization, its culture and climate, and its leadership contribute to its ability to accomplish its mission and goals.
