The Master of Science in Financial Management and Information Systems (MSFS) degree is structured for students who want to gain solid knowledge in financial management of organizations integrated with relevant coursework in the information systems field. The program will assist students who are currently in either a financial management job or information systems/technology job and who want to become a project leader or integrator associated with the specification, design, and implementation of financial systems within an organization, or currently CFO or CIO positions and need to know more about these two disciplines that are becoming more closely integrated in modern organizations. The degree is also suited for individuals who are currently not in financial management or information systems/technology job, but have some academic background in business, and who want to transition into a position within the organization that focuses on being project leader or integrator associated with the specification, design, and implementation of financial systems within the organization. Through multidisciplinary studies in fundamental financial theory, valuation techniques, cost management, information systems, and database design, students are prepared to be financial managers effectively able to deal with information systems within organizations. UMUC graduates are equipped to play a leading advisory role in integrating and utilizing information systems to create value within companies and to pursue management positions of increasing responsibility with potential to assume the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or Chief Information Officer (CIO).
