Degree Title: RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing
School: Thomas Edison State College
Degree Description: The RN to BSN program offers RNs the opportunity to pursue a baccalaureate degree. Registered nurses must earn a minimum 120 credits: 60 in general education, 48 in nursing and 12 free electives. The 60-credit general education requirement provides students with a broad background in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences/mathematics, and creates a foundation for the professional nursing requirements and graduate study. The 48-credit professional nursing requirement includes 20 credits of lower-division nursing and 28 credits of upper-division nursing. Nurses with an associate degree may meet the 20-credit lower-division nursing requirements through transfer credit or by the award of credit for diploma nursing course work. Three graduate courses, Health Policy, Emerging Trends in Healthcare Technology and Seminar in Clinical Competence, will be completed by all BSN degree students as part of upper-division nursing requirements. For nurses interested in graduate work, these 9 graduate credits will apply to Thomas Edison State College’s Master of Science in Nursing program.
