The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree prepares adults for career change or advancement, or graduate education, while providing personal enrichment. Students develop a broad general knowledge of the traditional liberal arts disciplines while developing a greater depth of knowledge in particular areas of interest. Credit requirements are distributed among the traditional liberal arts areas (humanities, social sciences, natural sciences/mathematics) and free electives. Students have the flexibility to pursue a concentration, choosing from subjects within one of the liberal arts areas: humanities, such as art, communications, English, foreign language, humanities, journalism, music, philosophy, photography, religion, theater arts; or natural sciences/mathematics, such as biology, computer science, mathematics and natural sciences/mathematics. Adults also may select an individual subject area of study that provides for sequential course work, such as environmental sciences. Additionally, students may select liberal studies, choosing from two or more disciplines within general education subject areas. The following BA degrees may be earned via the Conventional Approach, entirely online through Thomas Edison State College: communications, computer science, English, humanities, liberal studies, natural sciences/mathematics. The BA is a 120-credit program.
