The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree criminal justice area of study is an interdisciplinary study of crime and the functioning of the criminal justice system. It covers professional and theoretical areas, as well as the development of critical analytical skills, and knowledge of the research findings and methods used by those pursuing this field. Required courses include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Research Methods in the Social Sciences, Terrorism, White Collar Crime, Public Policy and Criminal Justice, a multicultural course, and 18 credits of electives in criminal justice. Students may transfer credits from accredited colleges, earn credit for New Jersey Basic Course for Police Officers training, Thomas Edison State College’s Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), examinations, military training, American Council on Education (ACE) evaluated training, and Thomas Edison State College courses. Students must work in the United States or be a U.S. citizen working on a U.S. military base overseas.
