The Special Education concentration prepares educators to:

  • Teach students who have learning and behavior problems in a variety of educational settings.
  • Assist classroom teachers in all grade levels (K-12) in working with students having learning/behavior difficulties.
  • Assess individual abilities and use the data to design appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Apply the knowledge and strategies necessary for teaching academic and behavior skills.

The Special Education program provides initial licensure to teach students with emotional disturbance, learning disabilities, or mental retardation. Coursework for the program is offered in multiple delivery formats with both on-campus and off-campus options. Program completion requires a minimum of 9 hours in the residential formats, including one-week, two-week, and weekend intensives. 

*Minimal on-campus intensives may be required for online program.
