Fashion Courses
At its essence, fashion is about feeling good about how you look, no matter if the sweater you are wearing cost $20 or $200. If you have a passion for making people feel amazing wih your designs, then fashion is probably the calling for you. While the fashion world has a reputation for being glamorous, don't be fooled: fashion is very hard work. It takes vision, a design aesthetic, and technical prowess to be successful. To bring a concept to life, a fashion design student will need to master skills such as sketching, draping, sewing and pattern-making. (cont.)
The fashion world is comprised of many different types of coursework and interest areas. Students have the opportunity to take courses in the history of fashion, fashion merchandising, textile design, knitwear, menswear and sustainable design. Students will be expected to take on a range of topics from the abstract (what is fashion? where do you find inspiration?) to the concrete (dressmaking and creating your own fashion collection for showing). Careers in fashion can be found in retail fashion merchandising, fashion journalism, trend forecasting and working as a product designer for one of the many fashion companies operating globally. Fashion is an exciting, fast-paced career, certainly. It also takes time, dedication, and an eye for making people both look and feel fabulous.
