Culinary Courses

ChefIf you’re a “foodie” or you just enjoy cooking and learning about various foods, a career in the culinary arts may provide a rewarding career for you.

Chefs take the lead role in preparing food for restaurants and other eateries. But aside from cooking, their duties can also be to develop recipes, plan menus, order food supplies, and oversee kitchen operations. Strong leadership skills and a solid customer service acumen are vital in addition to being able to create mouth-watering dishes. (cont.)

Although just about anybody can cook, chefs require special training in most cases. The majority of chefs possess some postsecondary training. Chefs can get formal training at a community college, technical school or a culinary arts school. There are also two- and four-year programs at traditional colleges in the field of hospitality, which provides a strong basis for a thriving career in the culinary arts and offers flexibility if you want to explore other areas. There are a wide range of settings for work including restaurants and cafeterias. For private restaurants, night and holiday hours may be required.

Chefs should be passionate about making dishes, and if they are, a thriving career is not far off.
