Animal Care Courses

Working with AnimalsFor people who love animals and appreciate the value that they bring in to a pet owner's life, pursuing a degree in Animal Care may be a rewarding career path. The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that jobs in this field will grow faster than average through 2014. Careers in animal care generally start out with on-the-job training, and this can be an invaluable way to learn the field and find out if it is the right one for you. In order to advance professionally, however, industry education is crucial. (cont.)

Students in animal care can choose from a range of professions and academic study. Zoologists and veterinarian careers require the most extensive and rigorous education. However, as pet owners continue to become more affluent, a demand will exist for professional, competent grooming and training facilities.

Students should also be excited for the opportunity to work with a large range of animals. On a typical day, an animal care clinic might see lizards, birds and rabbits, in addition to the more conventional cats and dogs that people keep as pets. Above all, an animal care professional should be able to relate and empathize with this wide range of animals they'll work with as well as with their owners. In fact, being able to work and manage upset or overbearing pet owners, could be integral to many jobs within the animal care field. The reward of a happy animal at the end of the day could be well worth it, however.
