Administrative CareersAdministrative careers run the gamut from being a medical office manager to an executive assistant. Regardless which industry you enter, there are a few main skill sets that make for an exceptional administrative leader.

Organizational skills are imperative for a career in the administrative sector. This means that you need to be able to coordinate individual tasks—and orchestrate them simultaneously too. An office manager may be sending out a marketing mailing, filing reports, managing health insurance enrollment, and setting up the corporate holiday party all at once. Organization, multi-tasking, meeting deadlines, and being punctual are all important skills. (cont.)

The basic skills to make sure you have are strong typing skills and an excellent command of technology. Get familiar with using various computer programs, especially the entire Microsoft Office suite of products. Many companies have their own intranet systems and other internal applications as well, so being able to manipulate those is important.
