SCAD is a member of the Sloan Consortium of institutions committed to providing quality online instruction, and all SCAD eLearning courses adhere to the same standards as on-site course offerings. Recently awarded the silver medal in Best Practices in the Distance Learning Programming category by the U.S. Distance Learning Association, for the eLearning degree program in historic preservation, SCAD eLearning also was awarded the Instructional Technology Councils Outstanding Course Award and the National Academic Advising Associations Certificate of Merit.
SCAD eLearning courses are taught by highly qualified professors who, online and on campus, guide students toward academic and professional success. Eighty percent of SCAD faculty hold terminal degrees and 89 percent are full time. Every SCAD professor offers the professional experience, academic credentials, expertise and passion for teaching that are characteristic of the SCAD faculty. Professors actively teach, publish academic papers, work as professional artists and designers and exhibit their work in museums and galleries.
SCAD, including SCAD eLearning, is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award bachelors and masters degrees. SCAD eLearning builds on the colleges commitment to academic excellence, technology integration and 21st-century design practices. After meeting program completion requirements, SCAD eLearning students earn a SCAD degree, with no distinction made between degree requirements met on campus or online.
Students who have earned SCAD degrees completely online, as well as those who have taken a combination of online and on-campus courses are currently employed in exciting, challenging and lucrative career fields across a broad spectrum of art, design and related disciplines. Many already have climbed the ladder of success by gaining significant leadership positions in their respective industries. Others have become successful entrepreneurs and freelancers. Most would credit their success as the direct result of having earned a SCAD degree. Students who earn SCAD degrees entirely or partially online are encouraged to join alumni chapters in their locales after graduation.
