NewSchool of Architecture and Design

The mission of NewSchool of Architecture & Design is to develop technically competent, aesthetically sensitive, socially responsible professionals prepared for a changing, global society.

Founded in 1980, NewSchool of Architecture & Design offers NAAB accredited professional bachelor's and master's programs in architecture, designed for early to mid-career students who desire to turn architecture study into comprehensive practice. Our school is located in beautiful downtown San Diego, a peaceful and serene environment that serves as an urban laboratory, nurturing inspiration and creativity.

We believe that a wide range of individuals can find reward and fulfillment in the study of architecture & design. The instructional programs nurture the artistic passion into professional excellence. Students are challenged with rigorous advancement standards. The faculty includes experienced architects, designers and practicing professionals who develop creative mentorships. NewSchool subscribes to the "learn by doing" thesis of the American philosopher, John Dewey, encouraging students to engage in internship as soon as their abilities and circumstances allow.

Located in the East Village section of the San Diego Arts District, NewSchool of Architecture & Design is, central to urban activity and the arts community; ensuring a rich professional context to the study of architecture. Classes are held in 84,000 square feet of facilities including classrooms, technology labs, a library, and 24/7 access to individual design studios. NewSchool is easily accessible by public transportation and has convenient freeway access for commuters.
