Engineers may find job opportunities within the federal government
Holders of engineering degrees have a wide variety of career options. These individuals can work for private organizations, healthcare providers or the government. Recently, the Partnership for Public Service conducted its annual survey of the best places to work within the federal government. NASA was named as one of the top five employers.
The 2010 survey is the fifth conducted by the Partnership for Public Service, which ranked 32 federal agencies.
The best places to work index is based on employee responses to questions about whether they are satisfied with their jobs and hiring organization. A key factor is also whether employees would recommend their employer to others as a good place to work.
Finding a job that is both challenging and supportive can often be the best reward after years of studying and paying expensive tuition costs.
In addition to this overall index, agencies were scored in workplace environment categories such as effective leadership, employee skills and work/life balance. NASA was among the leaders in several categories, including effective leadership, support for diversity, teamwork, training and performance-based rewards.
