Computer software company reports strong future for the industry

Computer software engineers and programmers had an average income of $85,430 during 2008, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Those who wish to pursue a career in this field may have excellent job prospects, as the Software and Information Industry Association reports that these companies are highly successful.

The 2010 Software Benchmarking Industry Report found that on average, revenues grew by about 15 percent from 2008 to 2009 and that almost 75 percent of software companies expect even stronger revenues in 2010.

"Since the recession, small and mid-sized software firms have focused on extensive expense and cash management, and now that revenue is improving, those decisions are really paying off," said Lauren Kelley, CEO of OPEXEngine - a computer software firm. "We see renewed strength and improvement in each segment surveyed."

According to the report, surveyed firms had up to $300 million in revenue this past year and stand ready for substantial growth in the coming months ahead.

The BLS reports that these professionals held about 1.3 million jobs in 2008, and employment in this industry is projected to increase by 21 percent over the next several years.
