Walden University rolls out new masters degree in family counseling
In an effort to help meet the growing need for licensed behavioral science specialists, Walden University, a fully accredited online education provider, recently announced the launch of a new master of science degree in marriage, couple and family counseling.
The program, which was developed in accordance with national standards for forensic, trauma and crisis counseling, is designed to train students how to resolve marriage and family conflicts, including those related to divorce, child-rearing and family violence.
"Marriage, couple and family counseling is one of the fastest-growing components of the counseling profession," said Matt Buckley, program director at Walden.
"We're proud to offer this master's degree for students so they can acquire the skills to help advance their careers in today's quick-paced and complex society," she added.
Graduates of the program will be prepared to encounter and respond to a number of trauma-causing events that may have to be resolved though the criminal justice system.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment of counselors and psychologists is expected to grow by 12 percent over the next decade due to an increased demand for mental health services in schools, hospitals and private companies.
