Southwestern College adds new online master's degree program

Friday, Sep 10 2010 9:29PM

For individuals who may want to further their education in religious studies, Southwestern College's new master's degree in theology may be a favorable way to do just that.

According to the Wichita Business Journal, starting this month, the school's new degree will include a focus on Christian theology. This course of study is intended for individuals who would like to become religion teachers in high schools or other institutions that teach Christianity.

As a result of obtaining this type of degree, students may find themselves making a decent salary once they land a job teaching this subject. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that religious educators who were working for institutions of higher learning made an average of $67,610 annually. Meanwhile, those who had the highest salaries earned approximately $109,300 each year.

In an effort to help professionals in this field land high-paying jobs, Southwestern College is making religious studies a more convenient subject to master. The new graduate degree in theology can be taken and completed through online courses. This allows individuals to further their education by making a schedule that is based around their daily routine.
