Retired Command Chief Master recognized with prestigious online education award
Grantham University, a provider of online degree programs designed for working adults, recently announced that Command Chief Master Sergeant John Harris (Ret.) has been recognized as the school's 2010 Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) outstanding graduate.
Harris, who was presented the award on April 13 at the DETC's 84th Annual Conference in Del Mar, California, received the honor because of his strong desire to complete his degree while working to serve others. He was also given the award due to the way he encouraged other airmen to take full advantage of the education opportunities that are presented to them, school officials have said.
"When I tell airmen and soldiers to take full advantage of their educational benefits, now I can lead by example and show them that it can be done," said Harris.
"If I could finish my degree with a hectic travel schedule, family responsibilities, hurricane seasons and while preparing for retirement, anyone can do it," he added.
To become eligible for the award, nominees need to have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and must be able to highlight significant contributions that they have made to society.
