Public encouraged to vote in online university contest
Walden University is conducting its Scholars of Change video contest, and has invited the public to vote for winners who will receive monetary prizes they can donate to their favorite charities.
The online schooloffers more than 36 degree programs with more than 140 specializations and concentrations that may help working professionals achieve their academic goals. The contest asked Walden students and graduates to create and submit videos on how they expect their online degree to change their lives and empower them to personally effect positive social change.
In response, it has received more than 90 entries, and the university says they show how "its vision of contributing to the greater global good fuels the passion of [its] students, graduates, faculty members and staff."
Adults planning on a career change may consider that studies have shown salaries of those with college degrees consistently surpass the earnings of those without higher education.
For example, estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau for 2007 show the average earnings for men with high school education were $42,466, while those with bachelors degrees earned $88,843, which is more than twice as much.
