Penn State to offer online courses in computer software
Software engineering is highly technical profession, so it would make sense for degree program in field to take advantage of the latest technological developments.
Operating on this logic, Penn State recently announced it is a launching an online degree program for its master of software engineering degree.
Students will have the opportunity to complete the entire 36-credit program online, which school officials said would increase the reach of individuals it can bring into the program to include the entire world.
Jason Ladley, who is currently enrolled in the online degree program, said the degree would greatly increase his lifetime earning potential because of the growth the field is expected to see.
Earning a masters degree in software engineering will essentially add two years of work experience to my résumé," he said. "It will help propel my career.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the demand for computer software engineers is expected to increase by as much as 32 percent by 2018, creating 295,000 jobs.
