Online university wins top award
Herzing University Online has received the 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, the school's authorities have announced.
The Sloan Awards are given as part of the When Work Works project, an initiative of Families and Work Institute, the Institute for a Competitive Workforce (an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce) and the Twiga Foundation.
When asked what flexibility meant to her, one of the school's employees said that as a military spouse she has been in situations where she needed flexibility and support during her husband's deployment overseas, and the school always provided it for her.
The benefits that the faculty and staff derive also extend to the school's students. One of them, Dave Seckman, who graduated from Herzig's curriculum management program, says he appreciated the scheduling flexibility while finishing his masters degree.
"I was able to meet my goals: graduate on time, receive distinction for my academic achievements and succeed in the workplace," he stresses.
Busy adults, such as working professionals or parents who would like to improve their skills to switch to better paying careers, are among the biggest beneficiaries of online degree programs offered at a variety of institutions across the U.S.
