A new agreement between Ivy Tech Community College and an online university may make it easier and more affordable for Indiana students to complete their bachelors degree.

Ivy Tech graduates who have completed their associates degree are now eligible for a credit transfer, an application fee waiver and a 5 percent discount on tuition to Western Governors University, a Salt Lake City-based online school designed for working adults. Additionally, WGU is earmarking 10 scholarships for Ivy Tech graduates valued at as much as $2,000.

"As we strive to create a seamless education system for Hoosiers, we are grateful to have yet another transfer option for our students," said Ivy Tech Community College president Thomas Snyder.

"Each year, thousands of Ivy Tech students transfer their associate degree to a 4-year college in pursuit of a bachelor's degree," he added.

As part of the agreement, Ivy Tech graduates will be granted upper division standing when they enroll in the online university.

According to the 2009 Sloan Survey, approximately 4.6 million students were enrolled in at least one online course in the fall of 2008.
