Capella University, an online college based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, has recently announced the launch of two new online degree programs and three new specializations.

They will now offer a bachelor of science in nursing and a bachelor of science in psychology. In addition, Capella has added three concentrations that can be completed as part of selected public service degree programs: security management and homeland security at the bachelors level and public health at the graduate level.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses constitute the largest healthcare occupation with approximately 2.5 million jobs.

RNs are projected to see nearly 587,000 new jobs created in their field over a ten year period, making it one of the fastest growing occupations in the U.S.

Overall employment in the psychology field is expected to grow by approximately 15 percent over the next seven years. The highest 10 percent earn more than $102,730 annually.

The online education sector grew 13 percent last year and had been growing at about 20 percent in previous years. Nearly one in four students take at least some college courses online, up from one in 10 in 2002, Reuters reports.
