Online university rolls out new maritime law enforcement degree program

In response to its selection by the U.S. Coast Guard as an affiliated online degree provider, American Military University (AMU) recently announced the launch of a bachelor of arts in criminal justice program with a concentration in maritime law enforcement.

The new degree specialization is designed for students who are interested in understanding the operational strategies involved in border control and coastal security. Graduates of the program may find careers in U.S. law enforcement, criminology, investigations and community relations.

"This concentration provides students with the education to meet the country's ever-expanding maritime mission, enables Coast Guard law enforcement professionals to gain valuable educational credit for their training and skills gained on active duty, and broadens students' knowledge base in this specialized field," said Constance St. Germain-Driscoll, director of the university's criminal justice and legal studies programs.

The curriculum offered through the program will include courses in coastal and port security, hazardous materials, maritime law and national security. AMU is one of only 10 colleges and universities selected by the U.S. Coast Guard as an affiliated institution.
