The U.S. Distance Learning Association has named November 8th through 12th National Distance Learning Week (NDLW). The annual initiative was created to promote awareness and appreciation for distance learning within the areas of K-12 and higher education as well as home schooling, business and government.
Drexel University Online will hold an awards ceremony to recognize outstanding faculty in honor of NDLW. The event will honor those who have made significant contributions to the fields of distance or online learning. Awards include Online Learning Visionary, Outstanding Contribution to Coroporate eLearning and Outstanding Online Instruction.
Kenneth Hartman, academic director of the school, said that Drexel is proud to honor the outstanding faculty members who teach online. He added that their innovative methods and dedication to online learning keep students engaged and connected.
The online education sector grew by 17 percent in 2009, and had been growing at about 20 percent in previous years, Reuters reports. Nearly one in four U.S. students currently take at least some college courses online, which is up from one in 10 in 2002.
