Online university receives recognition for doctorate of education degree program
As more schools integrate online learning into their web-based programs, a number of private organizations are awarding universities who demonstrate excellence in web-based education. These awards are often given to accredited colleges that offer numerous degree and certification programs.
For example, Capella University recently received recognition from the National University Telecommunications Network (NUTN) for excellence in distance education innovation. The school was chosen for its presentation titled Next Generation Learning: New Models for Course Personalization and Relationship Building.
The project was a result of collaboration between the online university's School of Education and the Next Generation Learning - an online education provider - to design the school's doctorate of education (EdD) program.
"An innovative use of technology was at the core when designing the EdD," said Liz Anderson, Next Generation Learning instructional designer. "It's wonderful to have our team's hard work recognized at this level."
According to a recent Babson-Sloan report, more than one in four students are enrolled in at least one course online, and most higher education institutions believe that increasing online classes and degrees is critical for their long-term success.
