Online university offers new degree in law enforcement administration

Law enforcement is a growing industry and individuals with college training should have the best chances of landing jobs in the field, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports.

Web-based degree programs in law enforcement are ideal for individuals in the military or for those who are looking to advance their career without leaving their current positions. Online universities are continually creating new degree programs to meet the needs of the job market.

Ashford University, an accredited online school, recently announced the launch of a new bachelors degree program in law enforcement administration. This course of study will prepare graduates to manage and direct police and sheriff departments as well as other law enforcement agencies.

"The ever-increasing demands for technological and managerial competencies require law enforcement personnel to be current in the most up-to-date knowledge and resources," said James Jeremiah, vice president of academic affairs at Ashford University.

Graduates of a law enforcement program are often qualifieed to work in local, state or federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Central Intelligence Agency and Homeland Security.

According to the BLS, in 2008 there were about 661,500 jobs in the law enforcement industry.
