Online university offers bachelor's degree in healthcare administration

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), a growing number of jobs in the healthcare industry require at least a two-year degree. Many of these positions are in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and private practice offices.

Schools such as Pierce College are increasing their healthcare-related degree programs in order to prepare more adults for positions in this field, TMCnet.com reports. The school recently announced that it will offer a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration this fall. The program was created to prepare students for management roles, and give them a better understanding of healthcare related concepts and skills.

As part of Pierce College's new strategic plan, it will be implementing a richer, broader delivery of degree programs for changing and evolving markets, according to James J. Mergiotti, president and chief executive officer at the school, the news source reports.

The school is also launching an online associate's degree in health information technology.

The BLS reports that healthcare provided 14.3 million jobs for wage and salary workers during the 2008 fiscal year.
