Online university launches bilingual program
For many Spanish-speaking adult learners, pursuing continuing education in the U.S. can seem like an impossible challenge. According to The Hill, unemployment rates among Hispanic workers were up to 12.6 percent last month, which is an increase from past months. However, with the explosion of online education, nontraditional students have more options than ever before.
For example, Liberty University En Espanol and Liberty University Online Academy (LUOA) recently partnered with the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) to create bilingual courses for grade three through masters-level.
LUOA, which has a traditionally Christian curriculum, will be offering an advanced certificate in biblical studies, associates of arts in religion, master of arts in pastoral counseling and a master of arts in Christian leadership. All classes will be taught in Spanish with optional English accompaniment.
"As a Christian university, all of our bilingual courses will provide the Christian foundation that families and adults expect from Liberty," said Orlando Lobaina, executive director for Liberty University En Espanol.
LUOA and NHCLC worked together to lower tuition rates for these five programs, making them affordable for more students to attend an online university.
The convenience of web-based coursework allows students to earn a degree without disruption to work, family or ministry.
According to SpanishSEO.org, more than one-third of the world's Spanish-speaking population lives in the U.S.
