Online university integrates program for transfer students
Online learning is a trend that continues to grow throughout the U.S. higher education system. This is due in part to the numerous individuals who have recently lost their jobs and are returning to school in order to increase their future job prospects. Adult students can also benefit from the affordability that online education offers.
Azusa Pacific University (APU) is one institution that has made efforts to assist learners with the cost of their education, the school reports.
"We recognize that one way to make private education more affordable is to attend community college first, incurring private school tuition for two years instead of four," David Dufault-Hunter, APU's vice president of enrollment management, told the news source.
In order to help students transition from community college to APU, school officials formed a Transfer Student Taskforce, which looks at all aspects of the transfer student experience. The Taskforce determines the ways in which APU can improve the curriculum to allow learners to transfer more credits, as well as assess the sequencing of courses and waive prerequisites.
The U.S. Department of Labor recently projected that in the coming decade, a total of 90 percent of new high-growth, high-wage jobs will require some postsecondary education.
