American Public University System (APUS), an accredited online education provider, has recently announced that it has become a member of JSTOR, a digital archive of academic journals and other scholarly content.

All APUS students will now have access to online arts and sciences collections that contain over 7 million digitized journal pages.

"The library at APUS has been eagerly waiting to enter the JSTOR domain," said Fred Stielow, dean of libraries and educational materials. "JSTOR is known for helping to preserve scholarly materials and provides a key component to sustainable access for our institution."

The APUS online library has now assembled a collection of nearly 80,000 primary electronic books that are available to faculty and students.

"We are delighted to welcome American Public University System as a JSTOR participant," said JSTOR vice president Bruce Heterick. "We expect that [our database] will quickly become an invaluable resource to the students and faculty at APUS."

The online education sector grew 13 percent last year and had been growing at about 20 percent in previous years. Nearly one in four students take at least some college courses online, up from one in 10 in 2002, Reuters reports.
