Online university brings on new CIO
American Public University System (APUS), an online education provider dedicated to advancing academic opportunities for working adults, has recently announced the hiring of W. Dale Young to the position of senior vice president and chief information officer.
Young will be responsible for developing the university's information technology department by expanding academic assessment tools and course delivery systems as well as improving student and faculty experience.
"Our organization will certainly benefit from Mr. Youngs experience of having successfully directed the design, implementation and operation of complex financial, operational and administrative information systems at large companies in multiple industries," said Wallace Boston, president of American Public University System.
Before coming to APUS, Young served as an executive at several business and technology corporations, including leadership positions with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Systems Alliance, a technology consulting services company.
The online education sector grew 17 percent in 2008 and had been growing at about 20 percent in previous years. Nearly one in four U.S. students take at least some college courses online, up from one in 10 in 2002, Reuters reports.
