Online university adds course in holistic nutrition
Employment opportunities for healthcare workers continue to increase. Nutritionists, who often work in hospitals, nursing care facilities or doctors offices, held about 60,300 jobs last year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports.
As more Americans follow the green movement, nutrition has become a very relevant topic. Many online colleges and universities are increasing nutritional course selections to meet the rising demand for degree programs in this field.
For example, the American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) recently announced the launch of a new course offering, which is called topics in holistic nutrition. The class will discuss nutrition, food and health within the context of popular media. It will be offered as part of ACHS's Certificate in Holistic Nutrition Consulting program and as an elective option for individuals studying alternative medicine.
"This course is truly exceptional because it engages students with the most current issues and discussions about nutrition," said Erika Yigzaw, ACHS senior vice president.
Coursework in this and similar programs focuses on the ideas surrounding what good nutrition is, and where American ideas about food come from.
The BLS reports that dietitians and nutritionists can earn as much as $73,410 per year.
