Online school reports 'significant' increase in enrollment
In keeping with the trend reported throughout higher education this fall, Linfield College has said it experienced a significant increase in the number of students enrolled in its online bachelors degree and certificate programs.
The school says the number of applications from prospective students was 43 percent higher than last year at the same time. Enrollment has increased by 23 percent, compared to 2008, with the greatest gains in the online accounting degree and the nursing program.
"Adults are returning to college to acquire new knowledge and skills, while balancing work, family and education," says Janet Gifford, associate director of Adult Degree Programs at the college.
"The fastest growing segment of American education is continuing higher education," she adds.
Since labor market studies have shown college degrees substantially boosts salaries of graduates, adults and professionals who plan to switch careers may consider enrolling in an online school.
In addition to offering flexible hours that fit busy schedules, online education allows participants to obtain a college degree at a fraction of the cost of traditional, on-site instruction.
