Online paralegal programs help growing need for professionals

Opportunities for paralegals are expected to increase over the next eight years
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment opportunities for paralegals are projected to increase 28 percent over the next eight years, with opportunities greatest for individuals with formal training and experience. In response to this growing need for qualified legal professionals, Bryant and Stratton College (BSC) is now offering both an online associates degree program in paralegal studies as well as a new online certificate in paralegal studies.
"The new online certificate in paralegal studies offers students an opportunity to obtain the specialized skills and training employers require, so that they can qualify for entry-level positions and quickly gain experience," said BSC's director of admissions for online education, Scott Traylor.
Upon completion of the online certificate program, individuals may choose to use credits earned towards pursuing an associates degree. The online associate degree program offers a comprehensive curriculum and combines area-specific study with liberal arts courses as well as English and computer science classes. In addition, the degree program includes either an internship or a capstone course, so students can demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities to prospective employers upon graduation.
"Our associates degree in paralegal studies is a good choice for students interested in a long-term career as a paralegal, since a degree often translates into a higher salary, more responsibilities and greater potential for advancement," said Traylor.
