Online nursing degree program receives accreditation

Accreditation of an online degree program by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) ensures the quality and integrity of an academic offering. This, in turn, can contribute to the improvement of the public’s health.

Benedictine University’s online master's of science in nursing (MSN) program was recently accredited by the CCNE for the maximum five-year period, reports TribLocal Lisle.

The Catholic Illinois university prepares nurses for a changing industry through online courses that focus on how leadership, education, administration as well as public and global healthcare relate to demographic trends.

Students who choose to enroll in the online nursing degree program must take eight core courses. They have the ability to create an individualized curriculum by taking four additional electives.

Ethel Ragland, chair of Benedictine’s Department of Nursing and Health, believes the accreditation of the program provides the institution with an opportunity to “enhance and support” professionals around the world through a “unique curriculum that is delivered entirely online.”

According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, individuals who receive an MSN are not only in demand - they typically make anywhere from $60,000 to $90,000 per year after leaving school.
