Americans who wish to switch careers or advance in their field may benefit from an online education. Web-based learning programs allow working professionals to earn a degree without disruption to their current jobs or personal lives.

Due to the unstable economy, many professionals are enrolling in online universities. Adult learners have thousands of schools to choose from and they can earn certifications, associates, bachelors, masters or doctoral degrees completely online.

For example, Remington College offers online bachelors degree programs in business administration, general business, human resources, management and marketing, criminal justice and organizational management.

Professors of these subjects are working professionals with industry experience.

The flexible structure allows students to take one course at a time with breaks in between.

"Our online degree programs offer the flexibility and convenience that many people need to complete their education goals," said Dale Leatherwood, president of Remington College’s online programs.

Remington, and similar online schools, gives students anytime access to course syllabi, lectures, assignments and due dates, school calendars and tutorials. Online career services often provide learners with employment application assistance, resume writing help and preparation for job interviews.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, bachelors degree holders can earn more than twice the annual earnings of individuals who hold a high school diploma alone.
