Online courses increase for law enforcement professionals

Wednesday, Sep 15 2010 8:50PM

Individuals who are already working in the law enforcement industry may want to consider furthering their education. Fortunately, there are many schools that offer Web-based programs that can help professionals to complete of a degree.

The law enforcement industry continues to create opportunities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that some workers in this field, such as correctional officers, will see 48,300 new jobs over the next eight years.

Ashford University recently partnered with the National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) to provide online classes for NSA members. The courses are provided over the Internet so that working professionals in law enforcement can make a schedule that fits around their daily routine.

Fred G. Wilson, director of operations for NSA, says that this program will allows members to "leverage their years of work experience along with formal education to earn a degree" that benefits many individuals.

Although some criminal justice positions do not require a degree, the BLS reports that professionals in this industry who further their education may have a better chance of being promoted.
