American InterContinental University (AIU) Online has been ranked in the top five in several categories among degree-granting schools when it comes to its impact on minority education.

Among other categories, AIU Online was named number one for associate business degrees granted to African-Americans. It was also ranked number two for bachelors in computer and information sciences degrees granted to Native Americans.

"[Our school] strives to better the lives of our students through education," says Steve Tober, CEO of American InterContinental University and President of AIU Online.

"We are proud to serve a wide range of minority groups that have typically been under-represented in higher education," he adds.

AIU offers a range of undergraduate and graduate degrees in programs from business, IT and criminal justice to fashion design, and is one of many institutions whose programs those who are interesting in going back to college are encouraged to explore.

Studies have shown that salaries of those with college degrees consistently surpass the earnings of those without higher education.

For example, estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau for 2007 show the average earnings for men with high school education were $42,466, while those with bachelors degrees earned $88,843, more than twice as much.
