Online college launches pharmacy technician program
Rasmussen College, an accredited online university, has added a two-year pharmacy technician degree program to its School of Allied Health, DrugStoreNews.com reports.
Students can now earn their associates degree while preparing for the pharmacy technician certification board exam.
The coursework is designed to incorporate the academic principles and practical skills needed to succeed in a pharmacy setting.
"The demand for trained and certified pharmacy technicians continues to increase," said school director Lorrie Laurin, quoted the news source. "The online pharmacy technician degree program can be completed fully online, allowing students to work toward a future career assisting pharmacists," she added.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the employment of pharmacy technicians is expected to grow by 32 percent in the next seven years, which is much faster than the average for all other occupations.
Online education has been hailed as a cheaper and more flexible instruction option that allows adult learners such as busy parents or working professionals to earn a degree without interrupting their lives.
