Online college adds early childhood education degree
Ashworth College, an accredited online education institution, has recently announced the launch of a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education.
The new program is designed for undergraduate students with no previous college credits as well as for those who have already completed their associates degree. Graduates of the eight-semester online program will have the opportunity to acquire a thorough knowledge of the principles and procedures of supervising and educating children up to the age of eight.
Coursework topics will include early childhood literacy, curriculum development, cultural diversity as well as guidance and discipline.
"Like all of our degree programs, the bachelors degree in early childhood education is self-paced," said Milton Miller, vice president of education at Ashworth College.
"Many of our students work full-time jobs and have families. We want this to be as flexible as possible so that they can incorporate their studies into their work and family schedules," he added.
According to the 2009 Sloan Survey, approximately 4.6 million students were enrolled in at least one online course in the fall of 2008.
