New university set to cater to adult students
Adult learners have many options, such as online degree programs, to boost their skills, and now there is yet another opportunity as Chapman University has announced the launch of a new school that focuses on meeting the needs of working students.
Brandman University, formerly Chapman University College, was originally founded to serve the educational needs of military personnel. Now it has become a separate fully-accredited institution, although it remains a part of the Chapman University System.
"[Our] leadership team recognized that the university could best serve the distinctive academic needs of working professionals by creating a dedicated institution that had more autonomy and served its own mission," says president James Doti.
"The makeup of the student population has changed dramatically and we are embracing that change," he adds.
The school points out that the Department of Education studies show the age of college students is increasing, and that between 2007 and 2016 the number of students enrolling in college between the ages 18-24 will rise by only 11.1 percent, while the number of students aged 25-34 will increase nearly 27 percent.
Busy professionals who want to update their skills may consider enrolling in schools like Brandman or in on online degree program as the Census Bureau estimates salaries of those with a college education are about twice as high as those who have only a high school diploma.
