Tuesday, Sep 7 2010 3:51PM

With healthcare as one of the nation's leading industries, Creighton University has created a new, completely web-based doctor of education in leadership program which is only offered online.

The new online degree allows students to study a variety of subjects including leadership roles, changing society, new technology and communication without interrupting their daily routine.

The program is adding to the growing number of students who are obtaining online degree. According to the Sloan Consortium, the number of online degree programs has grown by 17 percent over the last six years. Creighton University's new online degree is not only useful for the healthcare industry, but can be essential for other demanding fields, such as education.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 3 million new jobs will be created in healthcare over the next eight years. There were roughly 13.5 million jobs in the education sector as of 2008 and the industry is expected to grow faster than the average occupation. Some positions in education also require a doctoral degree.
