More campus-based schools are launching online degree programs

Wednesday, Jun 23 2010 2:48PM

The market for online universities continues to grow as more adults discover the convenience of distance learning. Today, more than 4 million students are taking at least one online course, the Sloan Consortium reports.

Degree seekers have hundreds of options as more campus-based schools create online programs. For example, Virgina University of Lynchburg (VUL) and the Education Online Services Corporation (EOServe) recently announced the launch of their first online degree program.

The program will allow EOServe to assist VUL in offering students across the country the option of "pursuing a degree around their busy schedules in a convenient online format, and for working adults looking to distinguish themselves in the workplace with a degree they can earn without career interruption,” said Ezell Brown, chairman of EOServe Corp.

VUL will offer online associates degree programs in arts and science, and bachelors degree programs in organizational management.

As the the job market continues to improve, now may be an excellent time for adult learners to go back to school.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, bachelors degree holders earn nearly twice as much as individuals who only have a high school diploma.
