Liberty University recognized as a top 10 online school

Authorities with Liberty University, an accredited provider of on-campus and online degree programs, have announced that the school has recently been recognized as a top distance learning institution by BestOnlineColleges.net.

In the 2010 review, which was based on information collected by the Institute of Education Sciences, Liberty ranked third in the nation in terms of online student satisfaction. The nonpartisan organization derived the results from graduation and retention rates of current students as well as the number of online degree programs that are offered each year.

The institute, which is a division of the U.S. Department of Education, found that Liberty University's online program has a 71 percent retention rate and offers students nearly 90 degree specializations.

Meanwhile, officials with the university have also recently announced that the school was ranked among the top 10 online universities in a collaborative survey conducted by The Journal and the Online Education Database.

Nearly 25 percent of the 19 million students attending an accredited college or university were enrolled in at least one online course during the fall of 2008, according to U.S. News and World Report.
