Clarion unveils spring online course offerings

Pittsburgh-based Clarion University - which enrolls more than 1,300 students in online education programs - has presented a list of degrees and certificates it will offer to off-campus students in the spring.

The offerings range from two-year associate degrees and four-year bachelors degrees to graduate and advanced certificate programs that students can complete online while working full-time. They cover areas such as business administration, nursing, media studies and education.

"[We deliver] online educational programs that are convenient and flexible, and which are held to the same quality standards as traditional on-campus instruction," says Art Acton, assistant vice president for academic affairs at Clarion.

"These programs all meet or exceed the rigorous requirements for regional and national accreditation," he adds.

Distance education can be a good option for those who are unable to travel to campus due to distance, job commitments or family responsibilities, but would like to take advantage of career opportunities offered by a college degree.

Census Bureau statistics suggest that individuals with higher earn about twice as much as those who only completed high school.
