Texas college launches online masters program in cyber security
In an effort to help information technology (IT) professionals enhance their educational qualifications without stunting their professional development, a Texas-based school has announced the launch of a new online degree program.
The San Antonio Business Journal reports that Our Lady of the Lake University has opened the application process for a new masters program in cyber security, which is intended for students who have a foundational background in the field.
Enrollees will complete a curriculum that is based on the university's campus-based graduate program in cyber security. Because students will be able to earn the degree by taking online courses, they will not have to worry that their educational endeavors will get in the way of their professional responsibilities.
Through the program, students will learn to "protect organizational information from theft, corruption and natural disaster," Ted Ahlberg, an assistant professor of computer information systems and security, told the news source.
The demand for professionals who have similar skill sets is expected to increase by 17 percent over the next eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
