Technical institute launches business programs for science professionals

Although it has been offering masters programs for several years, Florida Technical Institute has announced it will increase its graduate-level offerings to help students stay competitive in the difficult job market, Florida Today reports.

The school - which currently offers masters programs in computer science, software engineering and space systems management - was originally created to help scientists and engineers who worked for the Kennedy Space Center update their skills. With respect to that initial mission, school officials have created graduate programs in business administration, project management, logistics management and acquisition as well as contract management.

These programs could be "a good fit" for science professionals who are looking to learn new skills, Sue Carlson, a business consultant, told the news source.

"When the economy is kind of in a slump, you can go out there and look for work or you can...improve your resume," she added.

In fact, scientific experts who complete campus-based or online degree programs in business may be able to pursue careers in nontraditional fields, such as consulting.

Government analysts say that job opportunities in this sector - which is one of the highest-paying fields - are expected to increase by 83 percent over the next decade.
