Source publishes list of military-friendly schools
With the Post-9/11 GI Bill now in place, returning soldiers with plans to pursue higher education may be interested in a newly published list of schools that make special effort to embrace them as students.
The 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled and released by G.I. Jobs, a veteran-owned business headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It features the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools which make it their priority to recruit veterans.
They include state and private institutions as well as community colleges and trade schools.
"This list is especially important now because the recently enacted Post-9/11 GI Bill has given veterans virtually unlimited financial means to go to school," said Rich McCormack, G.I. Jobs publisher.
"Veterans can now enroll in any school, provided they're academically qualified. So schools are clamoring for them like never before," he adds.
Studies have shown that salaries of those with college degrees consistently surpass the earnings of those without higher education.
For example, estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau for 2007 show the average earnings for men with high school education were $42,466, while those with bachelors degrees earned $88,843, which is more than twice as much.
