Individuals who are interested in biomedical occupations can choose from many potential careers. These professionals could work as engineers in various sectors, such as medical equipment development, scientific research or technical consulting, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Fortunately, some schools are creating master's programs that offer students the option to learn about biorobotics or biofabrication. According to the Times and Democrat, South Carolina State University (S.C. State) is one institution that provides individuals with this degree.

The newspaper reports that S.C. State will combine its efforts with the Medical University of South Carolina for the new degree. Part of a $22 million grant for the state - approximately $1.5 million - will go toward the development of this program.

The curriculum will teach students how to reconstruct human tissue, which may require using an individual's own cells to create vascular tissue.

Students who obtain a master's degree in biorobotics and fabrication may find themselves working as biomedical engineers. According to Payscale.com, these professionals could work in pharmaceuticals or research and development for technology, and they could earn more than $72,000 per year.
